Unpacking the American Opportunity Index

At a time when so many people are questioning the vitality of the American promise and what it takes to achieve it, a groundbreaking new study released in October offers some insights.

The American Opportunity Index, a first-of-its-kind scorecard for worker advancement assesses the 250 largest U.S. companies to reveal which are doing the best advancing workers without a college degree up the career ladder. This joint project of the Burning Glass Institute, Harvard Business School’s Managing the Future of Work Project and the Schultz Family Foundation uses big data analytics to track real-world outcomes of millions of employees in roles open to non-college graduates at America’s largest companies.

A recent webinar moderated by Rajiv Chandrasekaran, head of policy and strategy at the Schultz Family Foundation, brought together two of the key architects of the Index, Matt Sigelman, President, Burning Glass Institute and Joseph Fuller, Professor, Harvard Business School to discuss the data and the findings.
